Three former employees of the now-defunct training provider, PSU Global, have been imprisoned for their involvement in a "deliberate and coordinated abuse" of the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) training system.The men were convicted for their roles in a fraudulent scheme that issued forged WSH certificates by conducting severely shortened courses, providing test answers, and falsifying training records in the Ministry of Manpower's (MOM) system.

As a result, MOM has invalidated all certificates from PSU Global and has informed employers that affected workers must be properly retrained before being deployed in safety-critical roles.

A vast majority of Singaporeans, approximately 70%, have yet to utilise their one-off $500 SkillsFuture Credit top-up, which is set to expire permanently on 31 December 2025. Despite a slight increase in usage, only about 28% of eligible citizens have tapped into these funds since they were introduced in 2020.

SkillsFuture Singapore has confirmed this deadline will not be extended and is encouraging individuals to use the credits for courses in popular, future-relevant fields such as artificial intelligence and digital marketing.

This expiring top-up is distinct from other non-expiring credits, such as the base $500 or the new £4,000 credit for mid-career workers, making its usage before the year-end deadline critical for those looking to upskill.

New SkillsFuture requirements from April 2026 to mandate regular training for adult educators

In a significant move to raise the quality of adult learning, from 1 April 2026, educators teaching SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG)-supported courses will be required to join a new national registry. To maintain their registration, trainers must complete 40 hours of professional development and 80 hours of practice every two years, a shift from the current one-off certification.

Announced as part of the next phase of the SkillsFuture movement, this new pathway aims to ensure educators remain abreast of industry developments. The initiative also includes creating more entry points for industry experts to become certified trainers and expanding employer-led training schemes.Whilst the new requirements have been praised for enhancing credibility, there are concerns about the potential challenges smaller training providers may face in meeting these new standards.

SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) has announced a 10-month moratorium on all new applications for modular Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) courses, effective from 1 July 2025 to 30 April 2026.

This temporary suspension is to facilitate a comprehensive review of the WSQ framework and to optimise internal systems for future policy enhancements. During this period, no new course applications will be accepted unless they are for regulatory, licensing, or specific Progressive Wage Model (PWM) purposes, and these must be accompanied by formal endorsement from the relevant agency. Existing WSQ courses will remain valid, however, SSG cautions that any non-exempt applications submitted during the moratorium will be rejected without a refund and no appeals will be entertained.

FirstCom Academy suspended for not complying with SkillsFuture Singapore’s marketing guidelines

Training provider FirstCom Academy is facing a three-month suspension from SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG), running from 1 January to 31 March 2025, due to marketing misconduct and lapses in course quality.

The action follows an investigation into public complaints about the academy's use of a prohibited referral programme and misleading hard-selling tactics regarding expiring SkillsFuture Credits. During the suspension, FirstCom Academy will be ineligible for all government funding and SkillsFuture Credit subsidies for its courses, and two of its WSQ programmes will be terminated. The provider must inform affected learners, who will not receive subsidies for courses starting within this period and may seek alternative arrangements.
